Closing stock market indices
Here is how major stock markets outside the United States ended on Friday.
EUROPE STOCKS EXCHANGE: European shares rallied to their best close in over three weeks after a big leap in US job creation repaired fraying investor confidence in the American recovery story.
The market's advance was broadly based, although economy-sensitive producers of commodities, autos and chemicals, along with technology stocks and insurers, were the strongest.
The boost to sentiment sets the stage for next week's kick-off to the US earnings season when the market will look for fresh guidance from corporates like General Electric, Alcoa, and Yahoo!.
"Faith in the global upturn remains intact, aided by the latest surge in US payrolls," said strategist Anais Faraj of Nomura bank.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 4007.60 points, up 82.75 or 2.11 percent, a rise of 185.27 from seven days ago.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3739.91 points, up 69.93 or 1.91 percent, up 147.52 from March 26.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 5784.6 points, up 67.8 or 1.91 percent, rising 197.6 from last Friday.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The All Share Mibtel index closed at 20834 points, up 310 or 1.51 percent, a rise of 724 on the week.
SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Australian stock market lost a bit of its sparkle as caution prevailed ahead of key US employment data, and a day after staging its second-biggest rally this year.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index lost 7.6 points or 0.2 percent to close at 3438.6, up on the week by 10.1 points.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: South Africa's stock market marched higher, lifted by robust gains in heavyweight mining firms Anglo American Plc and BHP Billiton on the back of a weaker rand.
The All-share index closed up 1.2 percent or 125.06 points to 10,890.61, rising 237.41 over the week, the Gold index ended down 1.93 percent or 43.62 points to 2210.75, down 74.35 from last Friday, while the Industrial index closed up 1.21 percent or 88.41 points to 7409.87, a rise of 236.61 from March 26.
