Allah Ditta grabbed a gold medal for Pakistan in men's 400 metres hurdles but India and Sri Lanka shared the remaining seven gold medals at stake on the second day of 9th SAF Games athletics competition at 3m Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex, on Saturday.
India won gold medals in men's triple jump, men and women's discus throw and women's 800 metres race while Asia's fastest woman Susanthika Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka easily won in women's 200 metres while her compatriots Mohamed Sifrath in men's 800 metres and Rohan Pradeep in men's 200 metres also collected gold medals.
Allah Ditta, who clocked 51.15 seconds, brought Pakistan the second athletics gold after Naushad Khan's victory in the long-distance 3000 metres race on Friday.
Arijan Ratnayake of Sri Lanka and Muhammad Adil of Pakistan got silver and bronze medals respectively.
In fact, Pakistan picked up two silver medals and four bronze medals on a busy day in the track-and-field competitions.
Zafar Iqbal in men's triple jump and Imran Tahir in men's 200 metres race were Pakistan's silver medallists while their bronze-medallist, were Muhammad Adil in men's 400 metres hurdles, Azhar Saleem in men's discus, Gulnaz Ara in women's 800 metres and Irshad Fazal in men's 800 metres. Amarjeet Singh gave India gold medal in men's triple jump with a leap of 16.16 metres while Hirdayanand Singh snatched gold in men's discus throw with 53.77 metres.
Amongst the Indian women, Seema Antil won the discus throw gold with a throw of 57.03 metres, comfortably beating her nearest rival, compatriot Krishna, by about eight metres margin.
Madhuri Singh took the women's 800 metres gold for India with timing of 2:07.61 minutes to complete the day's gold tally for India.
As for Sri Lanka, Asia's fastest women Susanthika Jayasinghe got to 200 metres in 23.49 seconds while Mohamed Sifrath had gold in men's 800 metres with timing of 1:51.60 and Rohan Pradeep had gold medal in men's 200 metres race, clocking 20.99 seconds.
