Priyanka Gandhi, grand-daughter of former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, has expressed hope that cricket diplomacy will strengthen bonds of friendship between India and Pakistan.
"The on-going cricket series has renewed friendly ties between the two countries and this series is of high importance," she wrote in a letter to Pakistan Cricket Board which was made available to APP here Tuesday.
She had witnessed the first one-day international (ODI) of the five match series at Karachi. which India won by 5 runs. "Our visit to Pakistan has been rich in heart-warming experiences, and memories that we will always treasure," she wrote.
"Throughout our stay we were overwhelmed by the generous hospitality, warm welcome and friendship extended to us, and the affection and support given to our (Indian) cricket team by the people of Pakistan who displayed such a wonderful spirit of sportsmanship", she continued.
Ms Gandhi said that Pakistan team should also visit India, so that people there can also express the warmth arid friendship they feel for their brothers and sisters in Pakistan.
"When the Pakistan team visits us we will welcome them in the same manner," she added.
