Commander Karachi Rear Admiral Mohammad Asad Qureshi has said that the land of Sindh is rich in precious natural resources including minerals and there was need to correctly utilise these minerals resources.
He was speaking at a ceremony for distribution of loan cheques to ex-military officials under self-employment scheme "Azmat" held on Tuesday at Circuit House here.
The ceremony was attended by district Nazim Mirpurkhas, Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani, DCO Mohammad Siddique Memon, Taluka Nazim Mirpurkhas Syed Inayat Ali Shah and a large number of military officials and ex-military officials.
Rear Admiral Asad Qureshi further said ex-military officials were a valuable asset of the nation and the country who had given the best years of life to the country's defence and to serve the nation.
He said Pakistan Navy has started self-employment scheme for the betterment and welfare of ex-military officials. It is extending small loans to ex-military officials on easy terms and conditions.
He said in the first phase of this scheme Rs one million were being given to 35 ex-military officials in the district. He further said Pakistan Navy was also establishing educational institutions for imparting standard education to students.
He gave a cheque of Rs 20 lakhs (two million) to Brigadier Zahid Zaman (Retd) on behalf of Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Shahid Karimullah for self-employment scheme for retired military officials.
Earlier, Lieutenant General Basheer Ahmed Khan (Retd) presented the welcome address and elaborated the problems being faced by the ex-military officials including need for establishment of recruitment centres of the three armed forces at Mirpurkhas, establishment of factories for producing mango juice and chip-board on behalf of Fauji Foundation and other matters related. to ex-military officials.
Director Sindh Armed Services Board Colonel Mohammad Shakir (Retd) and Major Mirza Masroor Baig (Retd) shed light on "Azmat" programme and said this micro-credit scheme has been launched in 18 districts of the country including Mirpurkhas.
Later Rear Admiral Mohammad Asad Qureshi and Lieutenant General Basheer Ahmed Khan (Retd) distributed loan cheques to ex-military officials of the district.
