NBF retrieves book with errors

National Book Foundation (NBF) has taken instant action on the errors/omissions as experienced in respect of one book with the publishing of two images and retrieved the entire stock from the market.
A spokesman of NBF on Tuesday said the book had been withdrawn and a new corrected version was brought into the market, which contained no objectionable material or image.
Each book also contained an appeal, whereby any pointed out error/omission could be rectified in the next edition also with grateful acknowledgement, he added.
The NBF spokesman reiterated that the improvement in the quality of the text and production, and also instant rectification of errors/omissions had been possible only because of the government policy, being not only the need of the time but also at par with the international education system.
The NBF spokesman said the organisation sincerely regretted for its omission in English textbook for class eighth, which had hurt feelings of the public, and assured that such incidents would not be recurred to the best of care.
He requested once again to those, possessing few hundred copies being sold unnoticed, to get replace free of cost from any NBF centre. An appeal in this behalf had already been published by the foundation in the newspapers, the spokesman added.
The NBF spokesman said that introduction of national curricula and deregulation of textbook policy were bold revolutionary steps of the government.
Both the decisions had shown results by way of significant improvement in the quality of the textbook development and production, as well as healthy competition created in the book trade, he added.
The spokesman said the said policy had created awareness among the students, parents, teachers and the agencies responsibilities for development and publishing textbooks to remain conscious of each and every word and concept given in the text.
The process of accountability of the textbooks at each level had since emerged in the form of an ongoing system, the spokesman added.
The NBF spokesman said uniformity in curricula was a national requirement and should have been introduced much earlier.
The spokesman said NBF had also published books from class-I to XII in both English and Urdu versions according to the national curricula and under the deregulation policy of the government.
