The cotton farmers have been advised to cultivate double quantity of cotton plants by mid of June to get better per acre production, official sources told APP here on Thursday.
In the normal situation, 15,000 to 20,000 cotton plants per acre are appropriate but if one wants to cultivate in the month of June than he should sow 30,000 to 35,000 plants per acre.
The distance between the two plants in the month of June should be six inches for better per acre production acre while in the normal situation this distance is about 2.5 inches.
The cotton farmers have also been advised to use seeds, including CIM-442, CIM-473, FH-900, FH-901 and MNH-552 after the first June for healthy and better production.
In Sindh province, the sowing of the cotton is nearly completed while in the Punjab province, it is still under way and so far about 80 percent of the total cotton crop production comes from Punjab.
An area of 2.860 million hectare has been set as a target for cultivation of cotton during the year 2003-04, which is less by 11.63 percent as compared to the year 2002-03.
