The Lahore High Court (LHC), while allowing a petition filed by Hassan Mohyuddin, a candidate from NA-89 Jhang, has directed the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), to issue fresh election schedule for holding bye-polls in the said constituency.
The petitioner has challenged the decision of the single bench of the LHC, which stayed the elections in NA-89 due to poor law and order situation.
The home secretary and the district administration had informed the august court that the elections could not be held in the constituency due to bad law and order situation.
The petitioner counsel contended that the law and order situation is good in the constituency, hence it is duty of the government to hold the elections. He said that the respondent officials are not presenting true picture, as during the last Muharram and Eid Milad-un-Nabi, not a single event pertaining to law and order situation, was happened in the constituency.
He, therefore, prayed to the court to set aside the decision of the single bench and direct the respondent CEC to announce fresh election schedule.
The court, after hearing all the parties at length, allowed the petition and set aside the decision of the single being staying election in the said constituency.
