BCG vaccination a must to save children from TB
BCG vaccination is imperative to save children from the onslaught of tuberculosis.
Professor Dr Zafar Ali Syed, Chairman, Chest Diseases Department, Nishtar Medical College and Hospital, Multan, stated this while talking to APP.
He said that the BCG (Bacillus Calmette Guerin) saves 80-85 percent children from catching or developing active tubercles (tuberculosis bacteria) because their primary infection is spontaneously cured, passing away as a flu-mimicking illness. No cavitary lesions are caused in their lungs but only their lymph nodes are enlarged.
However, 10-15 percent kids usually develop the disease when due to the attack of whooping cough or measles their defence mechanism is damaged.
Dr Zafar Ali Syed said that the best way to save our younger generation from this deadly malady is to cure our adults suffering from tuberculosis.
