All-out efforts are being made for resolving the problems confronting the masses living in the rural and urban areas of the district, said Sialkot District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed.
Talking to Business Recorder here on Friday he added that the district government has focused its attention on providing better facilities, like health, means of communication, education and rural electrification, in the district.
"A trauma centre is being established at Allama Iqbal Hospital," he said, adding, "brisk construction work on the centre is in full swing and it would be completed at a cost of Rs 20 million."
Similarly, the establishment of burn unit is in pipeline, he added.
The Nazim revealed that the government is spending Rs 50 million during the current fiscal year for providing free medicine facilities to the deserving and poor in hospitals and basic health units functioning in various areas of the district.
MEGA PROJECTS: The Nazim disclosed that more than Rs 2.25 billion would be spent on mega projects as well as on development schemes pertaining to public welfare in Sialkot, Daska and Pasrur tehsils of Sialkot district. Apart from this, 250km-long roads have already been completed in far-off areas aimed at linking these areas with their respective tehsil headquarters, he added.
He disclosed that under the programme, Sialkot-Wazirabad and Sialkot-Eminabad roads would be converted into dual-way. Similarly, Daska-Wazirabad road would also be improved and widened.
The government has also approved the schemes pertaining to water supply, sewerage and drainage of Pasrur tehsil, sewerage and drainage schemes of Chawinda, augmentation of Sialkot water supply system, sewerage and drainage scheme of Daska, he said.
Naeem Javed said: "Initial steps are being taken for setting up an engineering college in Sialkot adding that the completion of the engineering college would not only cater the needs of industrial sector of Sialkot but also provide quality and standard education, which would ultimately help reduce the pressure on existing engineering colleges of the province.
Similarly, the Punjab government has also approved the establishment of cadet college in Pasrur and steps are being taken for allocating suitable land for the purpose.
Naeem Javed said that this cadet college would be developed on 125 acres of land and this project would be completed at a cost of Rs 800 million.
The District Nazim further disclosed that the district government has prepared a detailed plan for remodelling of seasonal nullah Bhed costing Rs 100 million. The step has been taken for increasing the flowing capacity from 20,000 to 40,000 cusecs, he added.
