An accountability court on Wednesday convicted a former mayor Multan, Shaukat Ali Dogar, for 10 years and a fine of Rs one million.
The Court also declared him disqualified from being member of parliament for next 10 years.
The accused was facing charges of corruption and making illegal assets in excess of his income. He was also facing charges of misusing his office as mayor of Multan by extending favours to his favourites in violation of rules and regulations.
Another accountability court called for prosecution witnesses for recording their statements on June 26, in a reference against a former federal minister Ahmed Mukhtar.
Earlier the prosecutor withdrew two of witnesses, allowed the court for being not necessary in the case. However, the court directed the special prosecutor to produce rest of the prosecution witnesses on next date of hearing, and rose for the day.
The accused is facing charges of allotting textile quota to his favourites in violation of rules and regulations. He is also accused of misusing his office as federal minister.
