President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, who met here on Friday afternoon, took stock of the economic situation in the context of the forthcoming budget and discussed various proposals in this regard.
The two leaders underscored the need to pass on the fruits of economic development, particularly the macro-economic stability achieved in recent years, to the common man.
They also expressed their satisfaction with the agricultural package announced on Thursday and hoped that it would reform the agriculture and enhance productivity, besides promoting the welfare of all those associated with the agriculture sector, which forms the backbone of the country's economy.
The two leaders also reiterated their firm resolve to intensify efforts for combating terrorism and religious extremism in the country. They decided to redouble efforts to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in future.
The president and the prime minister called upon the people to remain clam and united to foil the nefarious designs of the terrorists.
They also directed the law-enforcement agencies to step up efforts to nab the culprits of such heinous crimes and award them exemplary punishment.
They also exchanged views on the overall international and regional geo-strategic situation and political environment in the country.
