To facilitate taxpayers, the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will establish a Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) in Islamabad next year for which the work had already started.
A large taxpayers unit was launched in Karachi on July 1, 2002. The unit, which started work with 300 cases, is now functional with 600 large companies of Karachi and is acclaimed as one of the best large taxpayers unit in the region.
Besides increasing revenues, the unit has created confidence and trust among the taxpayers as cohesive and focused teams of facilitators and collectors have been appointed to handle these cases.
Encouraged with the success of LTU Karachi, another LTU is being established in Lahore and would be functional by the end of August 2004. The third LTU will be established in Islamabad in 2005.
Encouraged with the success of Large Taxpayers Unit in Karachi, a Medium Taxpayers Unit was established in Lahore during the last year with 10,000 cases, which is now expanded to 100,000 taxpayers.
On the demand of taxpayers, MTUs are being established during this year in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Quetta and Karachi.
