It is not terrorism but not less serious than it. Water crisis in Karachi has been a constant problem but the growing incidents of 'power riots' in the city might turn the protests for water into riots.
Some 100 residents of Patel Para and adjacent areas came out on the street to protest against the water crisis on Friday. Suddenly traffic was forcibly stopped from Lasbella to Guru Mandir and vice-versa.
At least six police vans loaded with arms rushed towards the spot. Panic gripped the area but nothing was serious.
Police found that people after Jumma prayer came out to protest against non-supply of water.
Residents said that water has been stopped for the last three months and despite their approach to local authority, nothing changed. They said they would keep protesting each day for water.
Police officials met the residents and asked to provide a list of residential areas where water is not reaching and assured to restore the water supply.
Most of the residents are of lower or lower middle class and unable to afford costly water tanker.
In almost all areas of Karachi water tanker could be seen these days, which is a significant sign that there is no supply of water through pipelines.
