The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Mian Anjum Nisar has urged the Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, to constitute a committee comprising traders and representatives of City District Government Lahore (CDGL) to supervise the action to be initiated by the district government against encroachments.
In a press statement issued here on Friday, Anjum said that many representatives of the traders' community had complained to the chamber that the district government took action against encroachers without any prior notice, which damaged the precious property of traders.
He said that such actions on part of the district government would not only cause disappointment among traders but would also damage the credibility of the government.
He said that the DCO Lahore had said in a press conference that action would be taken against those officials of the department who allowed encroachments on central drain. When the DCO himself has admitted that government officials have a role in encouraging encroachers, then there is no justification to punish the traders only.
Anjum demanded that action should be stopped immediately and traders' community, which contributes billions of rupees to the government exchequer, should not be harassed any more.
