The PPP parliamentary leader in NWFP Assembly on Wednesday took to task the MMA provincial government and its MPAs for discrediting all previous governments for lacking efforts in uncapping the net profit on hydel generation by federal government.
The PPP MPA, who is recognised as authority on rules and regulations, soon after the conclusion of the speech of Habib-ur-Rehman, an MMA MPA from Buner, dispelled the impression created by present MMA government that federal government had succumbed to the pressure built up by it and increased Rs 2 billion in the net profit on hydel generation of the province.
Murid Kazim of PPP-Sherpao criticised the government for not accommodating the development schemes proposed by MPAs of the constituencies concerned.
He said that the government should give at least two primary schools, one middle and high school to each member of the house.
He said that the credit of the net profit should be given to the first government of PPP.
The provincial assembly resumed debate on NWFP budget for 2004-05.
Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan was in the chair.
Habib-ur-Rehman of MMA gave all credit of the uncapping of the net profit to the provincial government of MMA.
He said that the government was not doing injustice to constituencies of the opposition MPAs. He particularly mentioned the constituency of Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani of PML-Q in the district of Abbottabad.
Similarly, he said that Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha of the PPP had been given more funds than Shah Raz Khan of MMA in the same district, and that Engineer Hamid Iqbal, another PPP MPA, has also been allocated more funds than Muhammad Khan of treasury benches of the same district. Qazi Muhammad Asad, a PML-Q MPA from Haripur said that the credit of the balanced budget should be given to Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah who started reforms in the province in 2001. He said that the provision of the free of cost uniform for the students was part of his reforms.
Qazi accused the provincial government for ignoring industrial sector, saying that all flourmills of the province have been closed down due to non-availability of wheat. He urged the government to give subsidy on wheat.
Others who took part in the debate were Nisar Gul (PTI), Khalil Abbas Khattak (ANP) Taj-ul-Amin Jabal (MMA), Dr Muhammad Saleem (Independent) and Engineer Muhammad Tariq Khattak of PPP.
Later the speaker adjourned the house till Thursday 9.30 am.
