The Pakistan Telecom Employees Union (CBA) has demanded of the government to regularise the services of nearly 10,000 daily wages workers of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Central Chairman PTCL Employee Union, Zulfiqar Sangi said that at least 10,000 daily wages workers are struggling day and night alongside regular employees to provide phone, fax, cable and internet to the subscribers, and added that they were not given 15 percent ad-hoc raise in the salaries in recently announced federal budget.
He also said that PTCL's net profit reached Rs 20 billion mark in the current fiscal, which was just because of the hard work of the regular and daily wage employees.
Chairman CBA urged the President and Prime Minister to confirm services of these employees as soon as possible and provide them desired relief.
He said the present union after winning the referendum in March submitted a charter of demand to the chairman of the company for the welfare of employees, which was unfortunately dropped by the company's management. We being representative of workers' body realise that relief to the daily wagers is need of the hour, Sangi added.
Vice Chairman of the Union Waseem Minhas speaking on the occasion appealed to the management to issue orders for extending economic relief to the regular as well as contract employees. He demanded of the PTCL management to pay bonus from net profit.
They also urged the PTCL chairman to ensure leave encashment facility for daily wagers besides their confirmation.
