Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani, district and sessions judge, West, on Saturday examined another witness in murder case of Mir Murtaza Bhutto and seven others against Senator Asif Ali Zardari and 19 other accused.
Prosecution Witness (PW) inspector Mamraiz Khan (retd) deposing before the court at trial held inside the Karachi Central Prison (KCP), said he arrested SHOs Agha Jamil and Shabbir Qaimkhani after their bail pleas were rejected by the Sindh High Court.
The court later put off hearing till July 10, 2004.
Mir Murtaza Bhutto and his men were gunned down in an alleged shoot out between police party and PPP, SB workers on August 20, 1996. Police alleged that Murtaza men started firing when the raid party tried to arrest Mir Murtaza wanted in connection with attacks on two police stations of Karachi while searching for Ali Mohammad Sonara, his right hand man in the party and was allegedly arrested by police a few days before incident.
Meanwhile, the DJ West also ordered that Asif Ali Zardari be kept at Karachi till June 28.
The orders came on an application by Barrister Azizullah K. Shaikh, who requested the court that he need a detailed meeting for consultation with his client, as the case is now entering crucial stage.
The accused also submitted a medical report by Specialist of the PIMS and Dr Ziauddin Medical University Hospital.
Zardari told the court that according to PIMS letter, his (accused) spinal chord muscles are still tender and his both legs are numb.
According to experts treating Zardari, he can not be asked to sit for a longer duration and frequent travel is dangerous for his life.
The court was told that Punjab home secretary has ordered that Zardari be shifted back to PIMS on Saturday night, and taken to Lahore on July 28 to attend proceedings of a case against him.
The bench after hearing accused Zardari and Barrister Azizullah K. Shaikh ordered that Zardari be detained at Karachi till June 28 night.
