Major General Muhammad Ashraf Saleem, GOC 4, Army Air Defence Division taking strong notice of Rs 1.3 billion electricity dues against the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and other government department has asked the KESC billing department to expedite recovery or disconnect power supply of the defaulters, said a press release issued here on Saturday.
He was presiding over the monthly performance evaluation meeting at the KESC head office. MD-KESC Brigadier Tariq Saddozai, Head of AMT's Brigadier Syed Javed Iqbal, Brigadier Irfan Ali (Retd) and other senior officers were present. Detailed presentations on power distribution, financial improvement plan and performance of the billing department were made.
Noticing the 100 percent bill recovery position and reduction of transmission & distribution losses to 8.76 percent in industrial zones of SITE and Korangi, Major General Ashraf Saleem appreciated the performance of the industrial consumers of both areas for making prompt payment of their electricity bills and eliminating power theft in their respective areas.
Without the co-operation and response of the industrial associations and industrialists towards KESC such an achievement would not have been possible, he added.
Major General Ashraf informed the meeting that due to the efforts of the MD-KESC Brigadier Tariq Saddozai, by next April, power generation capacity of the city would increase by 150-200 MW, while the Hubco-KESC linkup is also being speeded-up.
However, significant improvement in the power distribution to the satisfaction of the electricity consumers was dependent on the system improvement plan, which was also progressing according to the targets.
He directed the KESC chief engineers to insure better response from the complaint centers and 118.
Electricity consumers must be given the correct position of the power supply with the actual reasons for the breakdown and true status of the distribution network till such time KESC is able to supply uninterrupted power to the consumers, which would be possible on completion of the system improvement work, he added.-PR
