The USDAs annual planting report will be neutral for NYBOT cotton futures because it was as expected, analysts said Wednesday.
USDA said total US cotton plantings reached 13.947 million acres, within the estimate of most analysts of 13.8 million to 14.0 million acres.
"It is close to neutral," said Sharon Johnson, cotton expert for Frank Schneider and Co Inc in Atlanta. Mike Stevens of Swiss Financial Services in Mandeville, Louisiana, said the figure was close to the high end of estimates and market bulls will take "no solace" from the estimate.
