Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Punjab has foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of supreme quality hashish (charas) abroad, in a raid at Lahore Dryport. However, no arrest could be made.
Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, Force Commander ANF Brigadier Ishfaq-ur-Rahman Khan said that he received some secret information that an international drug-pusher gang was planning to smuggle a big consignment of narcotics abroad.
Upon this, he directed the intelligence staff to keep vigil on the activities of suspected persons at the dryport.
He added that on suspicion the officials checked a container CCLU229554 at the dryport and found 680 bags of export quality rice weighing 13600 kgs while recovered 4010 kgs of fine quality hashish (garda) concealed in rear part of the container that was skill-fully made for the purpose.
Brigadier Ishafaq said that the price of these drugs was around Rs 350 million in the international market.
Giving further details he said the booking of the consignment was made by Crescent Traders of Gujranwala for M/s Dutch Organic Trading Netherlands.
He said that a person Ali Haider had submitted documents on behalf of Crescent Traders Gujranwala.
The ANF conducted frequent raids at Gujranwala for arrest of Ali Haider but he is still absconding.
He, however, said that a case against the accused has been registered and raids are being carried out to arrest the accused.
He further said that the concerned Custom Clearing agency 'Razzak International' is also being investigated.
Answering a question the ANF force commander said that this year record cultivation of poppy crop has been made in Afghanistan and that will definitely affect Pakistan.
The force commander has also announced special prize for the concerned ANF team for its success.
