Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) would take a delegation to India from July 12 to 19, 2004, in order to examine the practices of the Indian food industry.
According to a PHDEB's spokesman here on Wednesday, Shamoon Sadiq, PHDEB CEO, would lead the delegation, which would study fruit growers, processed manufacturers, exporters with regard to orchard management, harvesting, post-harvest management and treatment of the fruit for exports according to international phytosasnitary and quarantine requirements.
The food marketing practices (both domestic and export marketing), food preservation, processing and canning, and the technical assistance/extension programmes of the Indian and Maharashtra governments' Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) would also be reviewed.
For this purpose the delegation would hold meetings with authorities, including the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board, Pune and the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Asadpur (Delhi).
"The delegation would also visit mango orchards in Maharashtra and UP, and a few selected fruit and food processing units in Mumbai and Delhi. It would also examine the VHT Treatment Experimental Station of the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board and the National Institute of Post Harvest Technology near Pune. Direct meetings with food producers, importers and exporters in Mumbai, Delhi and Lucknow have also been arranged," he added.
