The mobile phone companies across the country will have to reduce charges by 30 to 40 percent to survive in the market after issuance of licences to two more companies.
M Nizzar Gawadre, a senior official of a cellular phone company, Pak-Tel, stated this, while talking to Business Recorder here on Friday.
"The existing companies will have to reduce activation, ESN and CLI charges if they want to survive in the market," he said.
He said reduction in taxes on mobile phone connections has helped in expansion of the industry as the figures of cell phone users have almost doubled in the last few weeks.
"The sale and use of mobile has doubled during the last three weeks. The graph of the mobile phone users is moving upward with every passing day," Nizzar added.
He said telecom experts were expecting a further surge in mobile usage and the figures of mobile users was likely to touch 10 million in next two months.
"The concessions granted by the government in the 2004-05 Budget is playing a vital role in the increase of cell phone users," he said.
"The rapidly-climbing graph of mobile users will touch 15 to 20 million in a couple of years, which is a positive sign for the industry," Nizzar added.
Commenting on technical aspects of mobile functioning, Nizzar said that by replacing AMPS with GSM system in mobile phone services, cell phone companies could provide better facilities to their customers.
In an apparent attempt to support his point, he said that APMS system was loosing its creditability due to the non-availability of the APMS sets in the market.
