Iran's consumer price index rose 14.2 percent in the year to May 20, up slightly from the previous month, despite a sharp fall in the monthly inflation rate, Central Bank figures showed on Sunday.
Figures published on the bank's Web site (www.cbi.ir) showed consumer prices rose 1.3 percent in the month to May 20, down from a 2.2 percent increase the previous month.
Year-on-year inflation the previous month had stood at 14.0 percent. The government's targeted average annual inflation rate stood at 15.1 percent in the year to May 20.
The government aims to bring that rate down to 13.0 percent by March 20, 2005, compared with the 15.6 percent recorded in the year to March 19, 2004.
