As many as 650 old and worn-out buildings are a threat to the lives of people in the provincial metropolis as these can collapse at anytime, particularly during the coming monsoon rains.
The CDGL has already declared as many as 50 buildings as most dangerous; 300 dangerous and 300 dilapidated, which may cause a mishap due to heavy rains. The CDGL also launched a drive for evacuation of these buildings and their subsequent demolition.
The District Nazim, Lahore, Mian Amer Mahmood said that hundreds of challan are being submitted to the magistrates concerned. Besides, directions have also been issued for prompt disposal of the cases so that operation could be made a great success, he added. In some areas of different towns, the buildings have also been bulldozed, while challans are being submitted to the magistrate for bulldozing remaining ones, the Nazim said.
It is pertinent to mention that most of the residents residing in the deteriorating buildings are on rent.
