The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has distributed books to the master trainers of its "Adult Literacy Programme" being carried with the collaboration of Literate Pakistan Foundation in a ceremony held at Peoples Football Stadium Lyari.
According to a press release received on Tuesday, under its "Corporate Social Responsibility Programme" is already running such adult literacy centres in Nawabshah and Badin districts in Sindh and Ziarat in Balochistan.
In each centre a group of about 30 adults is being taught reading and writing Urdu and basic mathematics skills. About 1,200 adults will go through this three months duration literacy course.
Speaking on the occasion Syed Hassan Nawab, Senior General Manager, who was representing SSGC's Managing Director in his absence, said that being a responsible corporate citizen, SSGC is undertaking various projects in its franchise area Sindh and Balochistan for the betterment of the community. SSGC will spend more funds for providing basic health and education facilities, and for the protection of natural environment during coming years under its "Corporate Social Responsibility Programme".
Syed Hassan Nawab further stated that the provision of social services to the community is not the sole responsibility of the government. "The corporate sector should also come forward for the betterment of the community", he urged.
He said that SSGC has made detailed plans for social services and sufficient funds also have been allocated for this purpose.
"SSGC is already running adult literacy centre in District Badin and Nawabshah (Sindh) and Ziarat (Balochistan)", he stated.
Giving the details of SSGC's "Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives", he said that SSGC is providing natural gas to Baba, Bhit and Shamspir Islands in coastal areas of Karachi and Ziarat (Balochistan) for the protection of precious Mangrove and Juniper forests respectively.-PR
