Huawei Technologies, China's largest maker of telecommunications equipment, said on Thursday that it would open a new research and development (R&D) centre in Pakistan.
The centre will complement Huawei's existing R&D network outside China, including facilities in the United States, Russia, Sweden and India, said Huawei spokesman Richard Lee.
The company's R&D team now numbers more than 10,000, including about 1,500 engineers outside China.
Separately, Huawei said on Thursday it has signed a contract to sell 27 million dollars in gear to Russia's largest mobile carrier, MTS.
Under the deal, Huawei, which has said it wants to eventually list overseas, will deliver GSM-standard equipment to MTS for construction of networks in six regions of Russia's Far East and Siberia.
The deal is the latest in Russia for Huawei, which is trying to build up exports to expand its business.
