Worldcall, first private sector telecom operators in the country, has announced to start its local as well as long distance telephony operations within one month with a tariff less than the newly announced PTCL tariff.
While addressing a press conference here on Friday, Worldcall Group Director Marketing Ahsen Hameed Malik said that his group has become the first-ever private sector telecom operator in the country to get the Local Loop (LL) telephony licence.
"Worldcall Multimedia Limited (WML) got the licence for Lahore Telecom Region (LTR), while Worldcall Broadband Limited (WBL) was awarded the same licence for Karachi Telecom Region (KTR). These licences will allow WML and WBL to offer comprehensive last mile solutions in basic telephony to the end-users, including corporate, trade and domestic markets of the two metropolitan cities in the country," Ahsen said.
He said that Worldcall has also obtained long distance telephony licence.
To a question, he said that PTCL is going to further reduce its tariff, but he assured that Worldcall phone tariff would be less than that of PTCL. After all, we have to remain in the commercial market and it is necessary to offer competitive rates to the consumers, he added.
He also said that Worldcall has successfully completed all technical arrangements for the launching of its long distance as well as local telephony operations in the country, but it would be formally launched within one month, as there are a number of regulatory requirements, which would have to be fulfilled.
He also said deregulation of telecommunication sector of Pakistan would definitely benefit the people of Pakistan.
To a question, he said that under some regulatory measures, Worldcall would be bound to provide call-monitoring facility to the government agencies.
Senior officials of Worldcall Group, including Razzaq Paracha, Muhammad Shoaib Khan, Faisal Asif and Babar Ali Syed were also present on the occasion.
