Maoist rebels on Sunday kidnapped over 25 students from Thaimali village on the outskirts of Kathmandu, police said.
"The army and armed police joint team have begun searching for those boys and girls ... taken to an unknown destination," a Home Ministry official said.
"This was the first time that students have been kidnapped from the southern outskirts of the capital city."
Elsewhere, seven Maoist rebels were killed and a soldier was injured in an hour-long clash in Dolkha district, north-east of Kathmandu, police said.
Maoists also shot dead soldier Krishna Bote and seriously injured army officer Krishna Singh in an attack on Sunday afternoon at Shardanagar town in Chitaun district, south of Kathmandu, police said.
Earlier in the weekend, rebels bombed and looted two local banks in the districts outside the capital.
On Sunday morning, one person was killed and three others were injured when a bomb planted on the roadside near a bus stand exploded at Koteshwor area in Kathmandu, police said.
"A man was killed while three others walking on the road were injured in the explosion," police said.
