Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Khawaja Zaheer Ahmed on Wednesday said that government has allocated Rs 1.9 billion for the 102 ongoing projects of science and technology.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the presentation on "Strategies of Technology Based Development" at Pakistan Science Foundation here.
Ahmed pointed out that in modern times the paradigm of research is shifting to new dimensions of objectivity and commercial application and appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Science Foundation for the commercialisation of public sector research capability and industrial linkages.
Government is fully committed to support the activities for the economic development in the country, he added.
The main purpose of the presentation was to enable Pakistani scientists, researchers and production managers, to develop new ideas and strategies of technology based development. It was conducted by Eng. Shahzad Imran Baqai, Manager, Long Range Business Planning, Intel Corporation, USA.
In his presentation, Shahzad Baqai highlighted the importance of marketable research that can result in revenue generation and market leadership. He pointed out that importance of strategy could not be undermined, as the completion of any mission depends on its strategy planning.
Due to strategies of technology based development Intel Company has become the 4th on Global Most Admired list and 7th best company in the world to work for. About 70 percent of Intel's profit come from outside USA which makes it a truly multinational company, he added.
Regarding the programmes initiated by Intel in the country, he stated that Intel has planned to train about 70,000 teachers in the field of Information Technology and has been closely working with Pakistan's government.
Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Dr Farid A. Malik highlighted the importance of the linkages amongst scientists, researchers and business community of developed and under developed countries in rapidly changing environment of today's world.
Dr Malik further highlighted the initiatives taken by the PSF for the broader linkages amongst scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs within Pakistan and abroad.
Pakistani expatriates are willing to contribute in the economic development of the country and PSF has initiated a campaign for technology based development in the country, he added.
