Writers of eminence who met Arshad Khan, Managing Director of the PTV, on July 19 impressed upon him the necessity of rationalizing payment scale, standardization of policy for the acceptance and rejection of scripts and official recognition of the status of a writer who is a regular contributor.
Present at the meeting were Fatima Surayya Bajya, Haseena Moen, Zakia Akber, Ali Zafar Jafri, Abdul Qadir Junejo, Anwer Maqsood, Dr. Mehmood Moughal, Seema Ghazal, Nayyar Mukhtar, Taj Haider, Mehmood Ahmed Khan, Tahira Wasti, Kaif Rizwani, Farheen Chaudhry, Shariq Naqvi, Shaukat Shoro, Zeb Sindhi, Agha Saleem, Qamar Shahbaz, Safia Malik and Ambreen Habib.
A proposal for training of writers also came up for discussion and it was approved that the writers should be given orientation in writing for public entertainment. However, some of the writers who did not want to go into the controversy could not digest the idea of this kind of training. They were of the view that one is either just a scribbler or an imaginative writer. The training can correct grammatical mistakes, use of proper diction and sensitize to common mistakes that are frequent even in the finest works.
But a reference to training with an expectation that it would generate gray matter in a dull mind and would be grossly misleading.
Arshad Khan, however, has accepted the proposal and would arrange training/workshop for writers.
To get more feed-back on the working of the PTV he also met a number of actors, compares and programme producers. Prominent among them were Talat Hussain, Sadia Imam, Qazi Wajid, Shakil, Shafi Muhammed Shah, Ayesha Khan, Zeba Bakhtiar, Ferhan Ali Agha, Ghulab Chandio, Qaisar Khan, Azra Siddique, Mehmood Akhtar, Aslam Latar, Sohail Asghar, Naheed Shabbir, Farida Shabbir, Mehmood Ali, Ali Afzal, Tahir Kazmi, Salahuddin Tunio, Anwar Solangi, Huma Mir and Manzoor Murad.
The MD exchanged ideas on how to improve the quality of presentation and how to sell programmes to tide over the financial problems of the Corporation.
He said he was hopeful that collection of TV fee through electricity bills would, to a considerable extent, bring some relief to the Corporation but it would have to earn some more money to spend on the improvement of the Corporation.
Khan seems to be focussed and determined to improve the image of the Corporation.
