I am glad to know that the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry have decided to introduce awards for the outstanding exporters, importers, investors, manufacturers, retailers and tax payers.
These awards would create a sense of competition in the business community and encourage new enterprising entrepreneurs to manage their business in professional manner. It would also encourage exports to make Pakistan self reliant.
The Government on its part has endeavoured to provide an enabling atmosphere to the private sector to play its role as a development partner in the country. It has introduced business friendly culture, provided matching incentives, including a friendly tax regime.
The structural reforms have made regulatory regime of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) business friendly. The Govt. is also reducing inter-face between tax payers and tax collection machinery to encourage investors to pay their taxes in a hassle free atmosphere. The custom tariffs have been rationalised.
The Government is also installing X-ray machines at major points of entry to improve tax collection and speedy clearance of goods.
In the end, I wish Adeel Raud, President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry success and hope that under his stewardship the Chamber would play its role in promoting trade with the region, specially Afghanistan.
