Pakistan Peoples Party Patriots Chairman and Federal Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal said that there was no plan of sending troops to Iraq and added that President Musharraf was consulting with the cabinet in this regard and any decision would be taken in the greater interest of the nation.
He was addressing a large public gathering at Sharah-e-Faisal Karachi on Sunday. Condemning the attempt on Shaukat Aziz, he said that they were with President Musharraf in war against terrorism.
He said that PPP was playing a positive role both in and outside the parliament. He said that reactivation and reorganisation of party before local bodies' election had been decided and under this plan the party leadership would visit all the four provinces so that coming local bodies' election could be participated.
He said that the government had initiated various projects of public welfare that would eliminate poverty, illiteracy and terrorism. Earlier, Aftab Sherpao said that they supported Pervez Musharraf as he as per the directives of Supreme Court held elections and democratically allowed the majority party to rule the province.
He said that some quarters were misleading the people in the name of religion and added that they were willing to make Karachi a true city of lights and peace so that investment could be promoted and job opportunities could be generated. He vowed to make Pakistan Asian Tiger.
Federal Home Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat said that on Sunday Pakistan was confronted with a lot of challenges and added that they were taking the nation towards prosperity. He said that they wanted to end poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and terrorism from the country.
"This is the mission of President Musharraf in which we all are with him", he said that they were fighting the extremists for peaceful, liberal society.
He alleged that these extremist elements were trying to push the country towards the centuries old, obsolete social system. He appealed to the masses to join PPP to strengthen the democracy.
Moreover, Aftab Sherpao announced provincial minister Manzoor Panhwar as president PPP Sindh and Mir Mehboob Bajarani as General Secretary. He also announced Manzoor Ali Shah and Nasir Khan Khoso as vice presidents PPP Sindh, Abdul Razzaq Mahar as Deputy General Secretary and Banu Saghir as president women wing.
He said that until the organisation of party the current leadership would function and later the leadership would be decided through election.
