District Nazim Raja Tariq Mehboob Kiani has said that Rawalpindi is first district in Pakistan where district government would install modern and computerised video cameras to stop the car theft.
"District Government in League with National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has hold a pilot project to eliminate the car lifting menace and will install computerised video cameras on all entry and exit points", Kiani said while talking to reporters here on Saturday.
"It will help in complete elimination of the car lifting as installation of the cameras would not allow car lifter to leave the district and he will be stopped on the exit point by police", Kiani said and added that the installation work on this project would start from August 15.
He said that the booths would be established all entry and exit points of the district including Rawat, Sawan Camp, Sihala Railway Crossing, Nilore, Chrah, Bara Kahu, Dhok Hamida Railway Crossing, Sangjani Toll Plaza, Damn-e-Koh, Adiala, Meera Chakri road, Faizabad and Cricket Stadium road.
District Nazim said that for making this programme a success a centre of Nadra will be set up in Excise and Taxation office Rawalpindi where during registration and transfer of the vehicle a computer chip would be given to the owner which hold complete record of the vehicle and owner. Owner of the vehicle will have to pay Rs 365 for this chip, he added.
He said that data in the chip will be fed in the central database and all the booths on entry and exit will be connected with this database.
