Spain is seeking ways to increase investment in its electricity and gas distribution systems but will not introduce big changes to the way they are run, Industry Ministry Jose Montilla said in an interview published on Sunday.
Spain's new Socialist government has said it wants to foster competition in the energy market while increasing infrastructure investment and lowering prices for consumers, sparking speculation about legislative changes.
Montilla said he would study with care a National Energy Commission (CNE) report on proposals to strengthen the independence of gas and electricity distribution networks, run by Enagas and Red Electrica respectively.
"We are not going to rush our decision. This is a model which can be perfected but I do not think we have to make any major readjustments," Montilla told Spanish news agency Europa Press.
