We regret the publication of a report in Business Recorder of August 7 about imposition of central excise duty (CED) on export of dates.
The report was based on misinformation. There is no question of imposition of CED on export of dates.
However, the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has imposed, vide SRO No 621 (1) 2004 dated July 15, Rs 200 excise duty on commission earned by shipping agents on every bill of lading issued by them.
As a consequence, the levy is applicable on all trade transactions conducted at the ports.-Editor
