The anomaly committee has decided to retain the condition of obtaining National Tax Number (NTN) while booking locally manufactured cars.
A senior government official, who attended the anomaly committee meeting, told Business Recorder here on Thursday that the government has not accepted the request of car manufacturers to withdraw the condition of obtaining NTN at the time of booking of cars.
According to SRO 453 (I)/2004 announced in budget, the manufacturer-cum-assembler of automobiles would sell the vehicles to an NTN holder only and the record of the same would be furnished to the CBR or to any other designated person on monthly basis.
The CBR had already withdrawn the condition of obtaining National Tax Number (NTN) while booking locally manufactured cars for the federal, provincial and all other local government departments.
The CBR had issued instructions to all the collectors of customs regarding the withdrawal of NTN condition on purchase of vehicles by government departments.
He said that the anomaly committee also discussed proposed amendments in the Sales Tax Act, 1990 and Customs Act, 1969.
