The Punjab government has planned recruitment of 36,000 teachers in the primary, middle and high schools of the province to ensure provision of educational facilities.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi revealed this while presiding over a meeting, which held here on Monday to review implementation of Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme.
Apart from recruitment of teachers, over 1,500 lecturers are also being appointed against the vacant posts through Punjab Public Service Commission, he added.
All the appointments would strictly be made on merit basis while women would have an equal chance of appointment during the recruitment process, he maintained.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Jehangir Tareen, Chief Secretary, Punjab Kamran Rasool, Secretary Education, Shahid Rashid, Secretary Special Education Nazir Saeed, head of Project Management Unit of Education Programme, Khalid Ikhlaq Gilani and head of various departments concerned were also present in the meeting.
The chief minister said the government is evolving a comprehensive strategy of teachers' training in the province while new reforms are being introduced to enhance literacy rate in the province. A separate monitoring system has also been evolved to implement different plans regarding the education reform programme, he added.
He further said that newly evolved monitoring system would function directly under the supervision of chief minister's secretariat. He said that concrete steps are being taken to enhance professional skill of teachers to achieve quality education's objectives, he maintained.
Under the Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme, provision of free-of-cost textbooks, distribution of stipends among girl students and other facilities are being ensured, he added.
The chief minister further said that he would pay surprise visit to educational institutions to review himself the pace of work on education programme and checking of teachers' attendance.
