Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Nasim Lodhi has said that Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) must supplement the efforts of government in controlling rapid population growth so that better health facilities could be provided to the citizens, besides improving their living standard.
She was addressing the certificate distribution ceremony among 35 lady doctors on completion of their training under Greenstar Organisation, here on Tuesday.
Member Provincial Assembly Parveen Sikandar Gill, Head Greenstar Institute, Dr Laila Gardezi and others were also present on the occasion.
The Minister maintained that high rate of population growth in the country is assuming dangerous proportions and it is need of the hour to overcome this problem.
She said it is unfortunate that the majority of country's population is living below the poverty line. She appreciated the efforts of Greenstar in providing basic health care to low income people.
She further said that the activities of other NGOs are limited to family planning whereas the Greenstar is providing services in the field of mother and child health, AIDs control, safe delivery as well as Malaria and TB treatment.
Earlier, Greenstar Chief Executive Imran Zafar in his briefing to the Provincial Minister informed that 13 centres of Greenstar are presently operating in Punjab and this number would be increased to 30 by the end of this year which would greatly help in extending healthcare to the citizens.
Later, the Minister awarded certificates to the lady doctors who had completed their training.
