Pakistan Army troops serving under the aegis of UN peace-keeping mission in Liberia continue to provide relief and rehabilitation assistance to the needy people of the war-ravaged country besides, undertaking their operational duties in the most difficult part of the country.
They along with Swedish contingent launched first cordon and search operation near Guinea border. It was launched near forest along the border on receipt of credible information about a large cache of weapons.
Lieutenant Colonel Ghulam Raza, commanding officer of Pak Batt-II led the operation along with the special services peace-keepers and a quick reserve force of Swedish Army which was placed under command of Pakistani troops.
Pak peace-keepers carried out a day-long search in the jungle, and recovered various types of weapons and huge quantity of ammunition. Efforts of the Pakistan Army troops have helped restore the law and order in their area of responsibility.
Besides, undertaking their operational responsibilities, Pak peace-keepers are also providing humanitarian assistance to the locals, including free-medical treatment, distribution of food items, renovation of important buildings and roads in their area of responsibility.
Unprecedented efforts of the Pak troops have been acclaimed at all levels, including the local populace.
During his recent visit to the contingent of the Pakistan Army, the Special Representative of the UN secretary-general, Jacques Paul Klein lauded the tremendous performance of Pak troops with particular reference to the humanitarian assistance being provided by them to the locals. Jacques Paul Klein also visited a free medical camp established by the Pakistani troops.
Pakistani troops are deployed in the most difficult part of the country. Despite all odds, they have established the writ of law, and set up various check-posts on the entry and exit routes leading to the Tabmanburg city.
Pakistani troops are also conducting combat patrolling round the clock to ensure the swift execution of disarmament.
