Laurels were brought for Pakistan as the country clinched one of the most prestigious 'Hurights Osaka Award - 2004'for international human rights education materials.
The Pakistan-based organisation, the Human Rights Education Programme (HREP), was one of the four recipients of the Award out of a total 150 entries from 92 organisations and individuals in the Asia Pacific region.
Interestingly, Pakistan also appeared to be the only non-Japanese organisation to receive the Award. The Award was set up to commemorate the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Hurights Osaka, which is the Asia Pacific Human Rights Information Centre based in Osaka, Japan.
The timing of the award also coincided with the end of the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education (1995-2004).
The objective of the award was to recognise the most creative and original human rights education material produced in the Asia - Pacific region and promote the development of teaching and training material for human rights internationally.
While acknowledging the range and the depth of the material produced by the HREP the Jury particularly singled out the teacher guide developed by HREP for their "systematic and easy to use presentation of materials."
