US Ambassador to Pakistan Nancy J. Powell has announced here on Friday US $60,000 grant to a Lahore-based NGO 'Co-operation for advancement, rehabilitation and education' (Care) for an English teaching project.
According to the US Embassy's spokesman, the Ambassador made this announcement during her visit to M. C. Girls High School in Kot Khwaja Saeed.
The grant would enable Care to start teaching English to 15-16 years students from underprivileged urban neighbourhoods in Lahore.
The goal of this two-year programme was to adequately prepare bright, disadvantaged students in written and spoken English so that they could gain admission to Pakistan's universities, thus permitting them to complete more effectively with students fortunate enough to have studied in English-medium schools.
Seema Aziz, Managing Trustee of Care, welcomed Nancy to the school and she was given a round of the school. She was also introduced to teachers preparing for the new school and students in the English language programme.
