The leaders of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and thousands of people from across the country held protest demonstrations to condemn the mysterious death of Qazi Mohammad Noor in police detention, US attacks on Hazrat Ali (RA) Shrine in Najaf and raids on religious seminaries in Pakistan.
The rallies were held in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and other big cities of the country.
In this connection, a big gathering was arranged here inside Islamabad's Lal Mosque where MMA Member Parliament (MPs) including Senator Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, MNA Maulana Naseeb Shah, Shujaul Mulk and MNA Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz passed four resolutions condemning operation against religious forces in Iraq and Pakistan.
However, the protestors remained peaceful as ICT Police commandos and personnel of law enforcement agencies heavily guarded the mosque to avert any untoward incident.
Briefing the media men, Senator Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan along with other MPs strongly condemned the police raids on religious seminaries in the Federal Capital saying the government should immediately stop raids on Deeni Madaris.
Last Monday, Islamabad Police raided two religious schools set up inside Lal Mosque and Jamia Faridiya to arrest six clerics wanted for issuing a religious edict against the Pak army's offensive in South Waziristan Agency to flush out al Qaeda suspects.
Maulana Naseeb Shah told reporters that siege and search operation of Jamia Faridiya followed by late night raids at Lal Masjid were unjustified after the Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat acceded that Maulana Abdul Aziz and Maulana Rasheed Ghazi had no links with al Qaeda network.
The MMA MPs demanded of the government to immediately withdraw fake cases filed against clerics to create peace and harmony in the country.
Meanwhile, the students of Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) and activists of Shia sect including women and children also staged a protest rally in the federal capital against barbaric bombardment of holy places in Iraq, particularly Najaf, by US-led forces.
The rally was taken out from the central Imambargah G-6/1 and culminated at China Chowk. The protestors were carrying placard and banners inscribed with anti-American slogans like 'US is a biggest traitor of world'.
While addressing the protest rally, the student leaders/scholars demanded withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
They also announced that series of protest rallies would be organised in all the cities from Sunday.
