The government would announce a plan for the development of Tharparkar, which mainly would include schemes on health and education sector in addition to water supply and electricity provision.
The government of Sindh in collaboration with Planning Commission will chalk out a plan for development of Thar region within the next 30 days.
Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz was addressing a press conference along with Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim. The Finance Minister earlier chaired a meeting on Thar development.
The plan will include constructing of a few small dams in Tharparkar.
Hospitals would also be set up to provide basic health facilities to the poor people of the region.
Modern farming methods will also be introduced in the region so that farmers can produce crops with low water availability. They would also be given training to improve their productivity.
Some plants would be set up for the development of livestock. The facility will help in producing better quality dairy and meat products. Moreover, German and Chinese investors are also interested to use Thar coal for producing power. This would create job opportunities for the local unemployed youth. It would also provide electricity to local population.
After the meeting, Sindh Chief Minister said that availability of basic facilities would reduce the migration from the area. He said that he was made chief minister so that he could work for the betterment of the region.
Shaukat said that this plan is according to the promises made with the people of the region where even basic facilities like drinking water are not available.
