Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council of India Vice-Chairman Prem Malik has shown his consent with the proposal initiated by Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Mian Anjum Nisar that business associations of both countries must wage joint efforts for promotion of bilateral trade.
Prem Malik was leading a trade delegation, which visited the Lahore Chamber on Tuesday, said the LCCI spokesman.
Indian delegation head said that objective of their visit to Pakistan was to discuss strategy with Pakistani textile manufacturers to face the situation after WTO regime, as both countries are textile nations, and if a joint strategy is adopted it could help them in facing the challenges of post-WTO regime.
He said that India is ahead of Pakistan in the IT sector so it could take benefit of Indian experience, and called for opening land routes for promoting bilateral trade.
Earlier, LCCI chief Mian Anjum Nisar, in his remarks of welcome, said the trading community of both Pakistan and India could play an important role in promoting peace between the two countries by enhancing economic co-operation.
He said during some recent years, the Pakistani textile sector has achieved worthwhile progress in man-made fibre and meeting the demands of local industry, adding: "Both target market and requirements of buyers were before us, and we could reap benefits by joint ventures."
Anjum said both countries could also make some positive planning to take benefit of market in some third country or the region. He also called for exchanging basic information between the two countries. After inclusion of Pakistan in Asean, both countries could take benefit of potential exist in this region.
The LCCI chief said that exchange of delegation between India and Pakistan could also play an important role in enhancing economic co-operation, adding Pakistan was producing quality-wise better yarn than India. He said that in contrast to 40-count yarn being produced by India, Pakistani yarn was of 30-count.
