Punjab Assembly members would cast their votes to the election of seat in Senate vacated by the Federal Finance Minister recently as Shaukat Aziz was expected to take over as new Prime Minister of the country after Prime Minister Shujaat's tenure elapsed.
Shaukat returned to two seats of National Assembly, one from NA-59 Attock and other from Thar NA-229 in bye-elections of National Assembly held this month. Shaukat had, now abdicated his Tharparkar seat NA-229 and kept that of Attock. In lieu of his election to National Assembly, fresh election to his Senate seat was being held. The votes would be cast from 9am to 5pm in Punjab Assembly on September 14, 2004.
Meanwhile, Punjab Assembly normal session was expected in the first week of September. Exact date of that session was yet undecided.
