The last date for updating the electoral rolls prepared for the Local government elections in 2000-2001 have been extended up to September 30.
These rolls will remain displayed till September 30 to facilitate the eligible voters to get themselves enrolled and get the entries deleted, which ought to be deleted under the law.
The existing electoral rolls prepared in the year 2000-2001 to conduct the local government elections was displayed as draft electoral rolls on August 9 in the offices of Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers.
It was also displayed at conspicuous places in each electoral area for public inspection for inviting claims, for inclusion of names, objections for deletion of entries and filing of applications for corrections in the electoral rolls.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Chief Justice Irshad Hasan Khan (Retd) said that the purpose was to ensure that no eligible voter should least left out and the names of voters, who had died, migrated to some other electoral areas or otherwise had become ineligible to be deleted from the electoral rolls.
The persons who had attained the age of 18 years or above on January 1 and were otherwise eligible to be registered as voter were requested to approach the concerned Registration Officer or the Assistant Registration Officers, he said.
They could submit their applications on the prescribed forms to get their names enrolled as voter in the electoral rolls, if not already done, he said.
The CEC described that the local government elections were held on separate electoral basis. Separate electoral rolls had been prepared for Muslim and Non-Muslim voters. Claims for inclusion of names should be in Form (Alif) (for Muslims) and Form (Alif-A) (for Non-Muslims).
"Objections shall be made on Form (Bay) while the applications for correction of any entry shall be made on Form (Jeem), which are available free of cost with the Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers in each district", he informed.
