Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah has directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to deploy newly-formed Quick Reaction Force (QRF) for handling street crimes.
He was presiding over a high level meeting on Friday. Sindh police chief referred to various reported incidents in which the culprits snatched mobile phones, cash, gold ornaments etc from people on the streets and even in public transports.
Kamal Shah, while taking serious note of the increasing incidents of vehicle snatching, robberies and other street crimes throughout the metropolis, asked for strengthening the intelligence network and reminded his earlier directives for setting up intelligence collection centres and for progress reports on these centres within two days.
IGP asked the TPOs to organise meetings with SDPOs and SHOs on daily basis and submit the reports on their performance, so that the inefficient and unwanted elements could be removed from the police force.
The meeting was informed that the street crimes have increased in the city especially in Jamshed, Shah Faisal, Korangi, Gulberg, North Nazimabad, Clifton, Gulshan and Saddar Towns.
The TPOs were directed to set up at least three checking points in each of their respective areas under their direct supervision while the traffic police would also keep an eye on suspected vehicles and on seeing any will inform immediately to the Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) and other police offices.
The Sindh IGP also directed CCPO Tariq Jamil to deploy newly formed QRF, consisting of elite force commandos, at Madadgar-15 centres and at the town level in the city.
Kamal Shah called for close co-ordination with area notables and elected representatives for combating crimes and sought a report by August 31, in that regard.
The DIG (Operation) Fayyaz Leghari told the meeting that a new Madadgar-15 centre has started functioning in Lyari Town, while respective communities are being approached for setting up more centres at Tariq road, Hyderi market and Shah Faisal colony.
It was also decided that stern action would be taken against misuse of loudspeakers, running vice dens, extortion and wall chalking.
