Seven activists of Sunni Tehrik and Muttahida Qaumi Movement were injured after a verbal accusation of uncalled for political activities turned into a heavy exchange of fire in the narrow lanes of Ramawasami on early Tuesday morning.
Shops and businesses in Ramawasami and adjoining areas remained closed and contingents of law-enforcement agencies patrolled the streets.
The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital where the situation remained tense as the Muttahida men reportedly tried to stop medical and paramedical staff from providing medical assistance to Sunni Tehrik activists.
On Monday night activists of the Sunni Tehrik arrived at My Choice Gali in Azeempura near Islam Plaza to put up their party's flag. The Muttahida men reportedly resisted them and asked them to take away their flags. Heated arguments ensued and soon both the parties pulled up their guns and fired on each other.
The reckless firing left four Muttahida men and three Sunni Tehrik activists injured, including one pedestrian.
According to the DIG Operation, 10 suspects have been taken into custody. The situation is still tense.
