The 27-member Senate Committee on Balochistan will start its deliberations in the second week of September, owing to non-availability if its Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro.
"The committee will visit Balochistan to hold meetings with the nationalist leaders vis-à-vis their complaints and grievances and thrash out a comprehensive report on the province's issues," Pakistan Muslim League Information Secretary Senator Tariq Azeem told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
The Senate chairman, currently on official tour abroad, will be back during the second week. Likewise, Leader of the House, Senator Wasim Sajjad is in Britain on a private visit and will be back during the third week, official sources revealed.
Tariq Azeem said the number of the committee members had been increased from 22 to 27, with 14 senators from the ruling coalition and 12 members from the opposition parties while the Senate Chairman Soomro would head it.
The Senator maintained that a notification regarding the composition of the committee was issued couple of days back.
The ruling coalition members would include PML President Shujaat Hussain and Federal Minister Zobaida Jalal. They will be attending the committee meetings in the capacity of special invitees, as being members of the National Assembly.
In the previous session of the Upper House of the Parliament, the then Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had announced to form a Senate committee to look into the Balochistan situation and propose solution to defuse the same. Members from both sides of the aisle had welcomed the announcement.
The committee has been assigned to furnish its report within three months.
The nationalists have called upon the government to address Balochistan's problems and take them into confidence on the mega projects like Gwadar Port.
They warned to press for their 'rights' through a concerted struggle. However, their main thrust is that the people of the province must have the right to use the natural resources of Balochistan.
