The first national chemistry contest, which began here on Wednesday at the Hussein Ibrahim Jamal (HEJ) Research Institute of chemistry, Karachi University (KU), continued for the third day on Friday.
As many as 50 talented students have been selected from all over the country for the five-day exercise which included lectures by eminent scientists.
The participants, who had obtained positions in the intermediate and A-level examinations throughout the country, were being apprised in detail of the applications of chemistry in the industry.
The very objective of the exercise was to groom these talented students to adopt chemistry as a career, as this is stated to be an important branch of science for the industrial development.
Idea, for holding such an event, was mooted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under the programme of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Stem) career development.
The written test of the participants was conducted on Friday, the organisers said.
A quiz contest was organised later on. The result would be announced on the concluding day. A number of lectures would also be conducted on Saturday, - the fifth day of the exercise.
